Persia (Post-Seljuk). Khwarizm Shahs. 'Ala al-Din Muhammad II, AH 596-617 / AD 1200-1220. Dinar (Electrum, 20 mm, 2.55 g, 3 h). Citing the ʿAbbasid caliph al-Nasir li-din Allah (AH 575-622 / AD 1180-1225), ‘lā ilāha illā A[llāh] / waḥdahū lā sharīka [lahū] / al-Nāṣir li-dīn A[llāh] / amīr al-m[uʾminīn]’ (‘There is no deity but Allah, the One, there is no partner to Him. al-Nasir li-din Allah, Commander of the Believers’ in Arabic). Rev. Illegible legend, with very weak traces of Muhammad’s title ʿAlā al-Dīn Abu’l-Fatḥ. Album 1712B. Very rare. Struck from somewhat worn dies and with some areas of weakness, otherwise, very fine.
